Software Engineering Tech Lead

General Summary of Position:

The Software Engineering Tech Lead provides technical leadership for the design, development, and delivery of scalable, reliable software solutions. This role combines hands-on software engineering with architectural guidance, technical decision-making, mentorship, and ownership of engineering standards.

The Tech Lead works closely with software engineers, product managers, architects, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into well-designed technical solutions. The ideal candidate is an experienced engineer who can solve complex technical problems, establish development best practices, guide engineers through implementation, and ensure applications are maintainable, secure, performant, and aligned with the organization’s long-term technology strategy.

Responsibilities:

• Provide technical leadership across software development initiatives, guiding architecture, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and ongoing application support.
• Design and develop scalable, maintainable, secure, and high-performing applications, services, APIs, and integrations.
• Serve as a hands-on technical contributor, developing production software while providing technical direction and oversight to other engineers.
• Lead technical design discussions, architecture reviews, code reviews, and solution evaluations to ensure adherence to engineering standards and best practices.
• Translate product and business requirements into technical designs, development plans, system components, and implementation strategies.
• Establish and promote software engineering standards related to application architecture, coding practices, API design, testing, observability, documentation, security, and performance.
• Mentor software engineers through design reviews, code reviews, troubleshooting, knowledge sharing, and technical development.
• Identify opportunities to improve developer productivity through automation, reusable frameworks, standardized development patterns, CI/CD pipelines, and improved development tooling.
• Collaborate with Product, Architecture, DevOps, Infrastructure, Security, QA, and Operations teams to deliver reliable end-to-end solutions.
• Evaluate technical tradeoffs and make recommendations regarding frameworks, platforms, development patterns, integrations, and emerging technologies.
• Troubleshoot complex production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and drive long-term corrective actions that improve platform stability and resiliency.
• Promote strong engineering practices including automated testing, continuous integration, continuous delivery, infrastructure automation, monitoring, and observability.
• Identify and address technical debt while balancing immediate delivery requirements with long-term platform maintainability.
• Participate in project planning, estimation, technical discovery, and delivery planning while identifying technical risks, dependencies, and implementation considerations.
• Maintain technical documentation including architecture diagrams, design specifications, API documentation, development standards, and operational procedures.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 7+ years of professional software engineering or application development experience.
• Demonstrated experience serving as a technical lead, lead developer, senior engineer, or similar technical leadership role.
• Strong proficiency in one or more modern programming languages and application development frameworks.
• Strong understanding of software architecture, object-oriented and/or functional design principles, design patterns, data structures, and software engineering fundamentals.
• Experience designing and developing RESTful APIs, microservices, distributed applications, and system integrations.
• Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases, including data modeling, query optimization, and application integration.
• Experience with source control, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and modern software development lifecycle practices.
• Experience designing and supporting applications deployed within cloud, hybrid-cloud, or containerized environments.
• Strong understanding of application security, authentication, authorization, logging, monitoring, resiliency, and performance considerations.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex applications and distributed systems across multiple technology layers.
• Experience conducting code reviews and establishing development standards within engineering teams.
• Strong technical communication skills with the ability to explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers and provide technical direction without requiring direct management authority.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 10+ years of software engineering experience with significant experience leading technically complex initiatives.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
• Experience with event-driven architectures, message queues, streaming platforms, and asynchronous processing.
• Experience developing enterprise integrations using APIs, middleware, messaging platforms, or integration frameworks.
• Experience with infrastructure-as-code, DevOps practices, and automated deployment technologies.
• Experience building reusable frameworks, shared services, development templates, or internal engineering platforms.
• Experience with observability platforms, application performance monitoring, centralized logging, and distributed tracing.
• Experience designing highly available, fault-tolerant, and horizontally scalable applications.
• Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies and modern product development practices.
• Experience evaluating and introducing new technologies, frameworks, and engineering practices within an enterprise environment.
• Experience with AI-assisted software development, generative AI APIs, intelligent automation, or AI-enabled application architectures.
• Experience working within telecommunications, managed services, networking, SaaS, or other large-scale technology environments.
