Solution Architect - Azure Cloud, Microservices, Artificial Intelligence - Govt

Salary: Up to 36 Months Contract - Rates Negotiable

• Initial 12-month contract + 2 x 12-month extensions
• Remote/interstate candidates considered | Occasional Canberra travel

This is a senior architecture opportunity within a well-known Australian Government Department, helping establish its first enterprise Microservices and Event-Driven Architecture foundations while embedding AI-enabled engineering practices across the software delivery lifecycle.

We are looking for a senior Technical Architect / Solution Architect / Principal Engineer / Technical Lead who combines strong enterprise architecture capability with genuine software and platform engineering depth.

This is not a purely governance-focused architecture position. You will provide technical leadership and architectural authority across cloud-native platforms, microservices, event-driven architecture, AI engineering, DevSecOps and enterprise technology modernisation.

Essential experience

• Technical Architecture / Solution Architecture / Software Architecture with demonstrated focus on Cloud-Native Architectures
• Experience across Artificial Intelligence engineering and enterprise AI solution delivery
• Demonstrated technical knowledge of Microsoft Azure and Cloud-native architecture
• Strong experience with Microservices architecture and Event-Driven Architecture
• Experience across Enterprise application and platform modernisation
• Experience with Large-scale, business-critical technology environments
• Experience with Semantic search and machine learning solutions
• Knowledge of Responsible AI practices
• Strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals and Platform Engineering
• Experience across DevSecOps, CI/CD and Automated testing
• Experience with Observability and operational excellence and Security-by-design
• Demonstrated understanding of Architecture governance and reusable design patterns
• Leading enterprise technology transformation
• Senior stakeholder and executive engagement and technical leadership of multidisciplinary engineering teams

You may currently be working as a:

Lead Technical Architect, Solution Architect, Azure Architect, Cloud Architect, Software Architect, Principal Engineer, Principal Architect, Lead Engineer, Platform Architect, Integration Architect or Technical Lead.

The exact job title is less important than the depth of your architecture and engineering experience.

What you will be doing

• Leading the design and evolution of cloud-native, microservices and event-driven architectures
• Providing technical and architectural leadership across complex enterprise platforms
• Helping establish modern AI-enabled software engineering and delivery practices
• Driving Azure cloud and platform modernisation
• Establishing engineering standards across DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing and observability
• Supporting containerisation and modern platform engineering practices
• Developing reusable architectural and engineering patterns
• Improving platform scalability, resilience, security and maintainability
• Influencing engineering and architecture decisions across multidisciplinary delivery teams
• Providing technical leadership to engineers, delivery partners and senior stakeholders
• Building internal technical capability through knowledge transfer, governance and coaching
• Helping uplift engineering maturity across the organisation

Security clearance

Candidates must already possess or be able to obtain an Australian Government Baseline security clearance.

However an existing Baseline clearance is not required. As the client has confirmed that it can sponsor a new Baseline clearance for the successful candidate if required.
