Summary

Technical writer on Apple's Munich hardware documentation team, acting as the quality gateway and UAT driver for the internal docs platform (CLIs, web UIs, APIs) used by silicon designers, then turning test insights into feature advocacy and roadmap reporting. Core tech: DocBook/DITA XML, publishing toolchains, Jira, testing workflows.

Apple’s Hardware Group is seeking a collaborative, systems-minded professional to join the HW Tech Docs team to support and shape our internal documentation platform. Our team builds and maintains the documentation core infrastructure—spanning CLIs, web UIs, and APIs—that enables silicon designers and architects to author the critical specifications powering Apple’s custom silicon.

In this role, you will initially serve as the primary quality gateway and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) driver between software development and production releases. By mastering how our tools work in the hands of authors, you will leverage test insights and user feedback to advocate for the platform product, define future features, and communicate quality metrics and roadmap priorities to leadership.

This is a unique opportunity for someone with a deep understanding of structured authoring and publishing workflows who wants to transition from traditional writing or testing into product ownership, cross-functional orchestration, and platform advocacy.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree combined with several years of industry experience (or equivalent practical experience in technical documentation tooling, QA, or product support).
  • Hands-on familiarity with structured XML authoring formats (e.g., DocBook, DITA) and automated document publishing/rendering toolchains.
  • Proven experience executing User Acceptance Testing (UAT), regression testing, or quality verification across software environments (Integration vs. Staging vs. Production).
  • Proficiency with software development workflows, issue tracking (Jira), and agile collaboration environments.
  • Familiarity with leveraging AI tools, agentic workflows, or automation scripts to accelerate testing or triage workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across diverse audiences—from technical software developers and hardware engineers to engineering managers and leadership.
  • High degree of systematic problem-solving, attention to detail, and a strong sense of ownership over user experience and quality gates.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience transitioning from a technical writing, documentation tooling, or QA role into product ownership, business analysis, or product advocacy.
  • Experience generating, tracking, and presenting test coverage metrics, regression statistics, and release dashboards.
  • Familiarity with version control systems (Git, Perforce) and command-line interfaces (CLIs).
  • Experience collaborating within globally distributed, multi-disciplinary engineering organizations.
  • Comfort navigating IP-sensitive, secure development and hardware specification environments.
