WordPress Web Developer

Salary: circa $75,000 + super

Employer Bio:

Our client is a well established creative and digital agency based in central Geelong, trusted by a diverse client base to deliver smart, effective websites and digital solutions. With a strong foundation, steady growth and a talented multidisciplinary team, the business has built its reputation on thoughtful delivery, clear communication and long term client relationships. The team works closely across web, design, digital marketing and client support, with a culture that is collaborative, approachable and grounded in shared accountability. With an established portfolio of client websites requiring ongoing support, enhancement and development, an opportunity now exists for a capable WordPress Web Developer to join the team and take an active role in maintaining the quality, functionality and continued evolution of those sites.

The Job:

This is a hands on development role for someone who enjoys solving problems, improving existing websites and working as part of a broader creative and digital team. While the role will include new development, its primary focus is supporting, maintaining and extending the agency’s established portfolio of client websites, including continued custom development of its internally developed WordPress theme. You’ll work across updates, enhancements, troubleshooting, testing, deployment and ongoing improvement, helping ensure each site remains functional, secure and performing as intended.

The role calls for more than technical capability alone. You’ll work closely with designers, digital marketers, project and client support team members, contributing ideas, communicating progress and helping to resolve issues before they become roadblocks. You’ll also be willing to learn the agency’s systems and work within its established development procedures, recognising the importance of consistency and shared ways of working across a busy client portfolio.

You’ll care about clean, responsive development, sound user experience, reliable functionality and the small details that keep a website working well beyond its initial launch. You’ll also bring a practical working knowledge of Git and version control and be comfortable contributing to deployment, security monitoring and client training. While you’ll need an understanding of hosting environments, responsibility for managing the agency’s hosting infrastructure or DNS will sit elsewhere.

Key areas of involvement will include:

  • Supporting, maintaining and enhancing WordPress websites across an established client portfolio

  • Continuing the custom development of the agency’s internally developed WordPress theme

  • Completing website updates, bug fixes, technical troubleshooting and functional improvements

  • Developing responsive WordPress websites and new functionality from approved designs, wireframes and project briefs

  • Building and configuring pages, templates, custom post types, forms, plugins and integrations

  • Using PHP, HTML, CSS and JavaScript to customise and extend website functionality

  • Working confidently with Git and version control across common tasks including commits, branches, pulls and pushes

  • Testing websites across devices and browsers, identifying issues and completing quality assurance before deployment

  • Supporting website deployment, security monitoring and ongoing performance

  • Improving website usability, accessibility and technical foundations

  • Working within the agency’s established development processes and procedures

  • Collaborating with design, digital marketing and project delivery team members to keep work moving

  • Engaging directly with clients where appropriate to clarify needs, explain solutions and provide handover or training

Benefits On Offer:

  • Permanent full time role within an established Geelong agency

  • Varied work across an established portfolio of client websites, encompassing support, enhancement and new development

  • Collaborative in house team spanning development, design, marketing and client support

  • Central Geelong office and a professional, down to earth working environment

  • Opportunity to deepen your capability within an established custom WordPress environment

  • Salary circa $75,000 + super, commensurate with capability and experience

Culture Snapshot:

This is a business that values capability without ego, and people who communicate, contribute and follow through. The environment is collaborative, hands on and supportive, with team members expected to work openly across disciplines rather than operate in silos. People are trusted to manage their responsibilities, but they are also encouraged to ask questions, share ideas, help one another and stay connected to the client outcome. It is professional without being corporate, with an approachable team that takes pride in delivering good work and enjoys doing it together.

Skills Required:

  • Demonstrated experience supporting, maintaining and developing WordPress websites

  • Strong working capability across PHP, HTML, CSS and JavaScript

  • Experience customising and extending WordPress themes, templates, plugins and integrations, ideally within a custom theme environment

  • Practical working knowledge of Git and version control, with the confidence to manage commits, branches, pulls and pushes

  • An understanding of website deployment, security monitoring and hosting environments

  • Willingness to learn the agency’s systems and consistently follow established development procedures

  • Sound understanding of responsive development, cross browser testing and website quality assurance

  • Ability to interpret design files and translate them accurately into functional websites

  • Strong troubleshooting instincts and attention to detail

  • Clear verbal and written communication, with the confidence to collaborate internally and engage with clients when required

  • Organised, accountable and able to manage multiple projects and competing priorities

  • A practical, solutions focused approach and genuine willingness to contribute as part of a team

  • Experience with custom fields, website accessibility, performance optimisation or agency based project delivery will be viewed favourably
