We are looking for a skilled Course Trainer to deliver hands-on, technical training to undergraduate students enrolled in the AI & Data for Climate Honours Degree program. You will teach core modules including Data Science, AI/ML, GIS & Geospatial Analysis, Climate Science, and advanced AI applications, ensuring students gain practical skills and industry readiness.


About the Program:

This role is part of Project Mahathi, a pioneering initiative by Climate Collective Foundation and Mahathi Degree College. The program offers a first-of-its-kind AI & Data for Climate 4th Year Honours Degree, designed to equip students from low-income, Tier 2 backgrounds with cutting-edge skills in climate technology, data science, and artificial intelligence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive classroom and lab instruction aligned with the curriculum modules, including:
    Data Science Fundamentals & Python for Climate Data
    AI & Machine Learning Intro
    GIS & Geospatial Analysis
    Advanced ML, Generative AI & LLMs
    Data Visualization & Dashboards
    Career Preparation activities
  • Provide high-quality instruction and hands-on mentorship to a cohort of 50+ students from low-income, Tier 2 backgrounds
  • Support students’ technical understanding and problem-solving during labs
  • Track and evaluate student progress; provide constructive feedback
  • Collaborate with program leadership to continuously improve training content and delivery
  • Assist with preparing students for internships and capstone projects

Qualifications

Education:

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or related field.
  • Relevant certifications in Python, AI/ML frameworks, or geospatial tools are a plus.

Technical Expertise:

  • Strong proficiency in Python programming and key data science libraries (pandas, scikit-learn, matplotlib).
  • Experience with AI/ML frameworks such as TensorFlow, Keras, or PyTorch.
  • Familiarity with geospatial software (QGIS, Google Earth Engine) and satellite/environmental datasets.
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools like Tableau or similar.
  • Basic understanding of cloud platforms and version control (Git) is desirable.

Experience:

  • At least 2 years of experience teaching or training in academic or professional settings, preferably in data science, AI, or climate tech.
  • Practical experience in applying AI or data analytics to environmental or climate-related problems is highly desirable.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to explain complex technical topics to diverse learners.
  • Strong mentorship and student engagement skills.
  • Passion for inclusive education and working with under-resourced student communities.
