Sales & Business Development Representative

The Sales & Business Development Rep - Transportation reports to the Regional Sales Manager and is primarily responsible for identifying, pursuing, and securing new business opportunities within the assigned territory. With an activity split of approximately 80% new business development and 20% existing account management, the role focuses on prospecting, relationship building, solution selling, and expanding the customer base to drive revenue growth. In addition, the incumbent will maintain and grow relationships with approximately 100 existing key accounts, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction while identifying opportunities for account expansion and retention.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Develop and execute strategic business development plans to drive profitable sales growth and increase market share throughout the assigned territory (Niagara, Hamilton, Mississauga, Brampton, and north up to Owen Sound).
Prospect, qualify, and secure new business opportunities through face-to-face customer meetings, cold calling, networking, referrals, and industry events.
Build and maintain a robust sales pipeline by identifying, targeting, and converting prospective customers across transportation, fleet, industrial, and distribution sectors.
Establish trusted advisor relationships with prospective and existing customers by understanding their business needs and recommending value-added solutions.
Promote and sell East Penn Canada's complete portfolio of transportation products and services while identifying opportunities for cross-selling and account expansion.
Manage and grow a portfolio of approximately 100 key and national accounts, ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction and retention.
Analyze customer activity, market trends, and competitive conditions to identify growth opportunities and support territory planning and forecasting.
Prepare quotations, negotiate pricing and commercial terms, and secure new business agreements.
Utilize Salesforce CRM and other sales tools to maintain accurate customer information, prospect activity, sales forecasts, and pipeline management.
Deliver product demonstrations, technical support, and customer training to drive product adoption and strengthen customer relationships.
Support warranty inquiries, core recovery initiatives, and customer issue resolution while maintaining a strong focus on customer experience excellence.
Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless execution of customer requirements and timely resolution of service-related concerns.
Maintain accurate records of sales activities, customer interactions, and territory performance metrics.
Represent East Penn Canada at trade shows, industry events, customer functions, and networking opportunities to generate leads and enhance brand awareness.
Experience, Skills & Competencies:
5+ years of B2B outside sales experience, with a strong emphasis on new business development, territory growth, and revenue generation.
Sales experience within the battery, automotive, transportation, fleet, industrial products, manufacturing, distribution, or related industries is considered a strong asset.
Proven track record of identifying, pursuing, and securing new business opportunities while consistently achieving or exceeding sales targets.
Experience managing a large geographic sales territory and developing strategic plans to increase market penetration and market share.
Demonstrated success building and maintaining a robust sales pipeline through prospecting, cold calling, networking, referrals, and relationship-based selling.
Experience managing key customer relationships and growing existing accounts through cross-selling, upselling, and consultative sales approaches.
Strong business acumen with the ability to understand customer operations, identify needs, and develop value-added solutions.
Exceptional customer service orientation with a proven ability to build, maintain, and strengthen long-term business relationships.
Proven consultative selling, negotiation, and closing skills with the ability to influence purchasing decisions at multiple organizational levels.
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with frontline personnel, business owners, and senior decision-makers.
Demonstrated presentation and facilitation skills, including the ability to deliver product demonstrations, customer training, and sales presentations.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with experience interpreting sales data, market trends, and customer performance metrics.
Proficient in CRM systems (Salesforce preferred), Microsoft Office Suite, and other sales management tools.
Highly organized with strong territory management, time management, and prioritization skills.
Self-motivated and results-driven with the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced sales environment.
Willingness and ability to travel throughout the assigned territory on a daily basis.
Other Considerations:
Background checks will be required of the incumbent, and may include, but are not limited to criminal record checks, employment verifications, driver's abstracts, and professional references.
Daily travel within the assigned territory is required - incumbent must be willing and able to spend the majority of each workday on the road.
Occasional overnight travel is a requirement of the role, approximately 3-5 nights per month.
Sales & Business Development Representatives receive a vehicle allowance and company gas card and are expected to use their personal vehicle for business-related travel throughout their territory (to be eligible for the vehicle allowance program, personal vehicles must not exceed eight years of age).
Expected salary for this position is $65,000 to $75,000 annually plus sales incentive (exact annual salary offered to the successful applicant will be determined by the candidate's experience, education, related knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data).
