Senior 3D Environment Artist UNITY
We are looking for an experienced Senior 3D Environment Artist with strong expertise in environment creation, PBR texturing, lighting and real-time optimisation within Unity.
You should understand both the artistic and technical aspects of game development and be able to independently create, integrate and optimise complete game-ready environments.
Key responsibilities
- Environment creation: Produce advanced 3D models, modular environments and props, including UV mapping, levels of detail (LODs) and scene composition.
- Texturing and materials: Create PBR textures and materials using Substance Painter/Designer, with effective use of texture atlases, trim sheets and texture optimisation.
- Unity implementation: Build and manage environments in Unity, applying an in-depth understanding of the Universal Render Pipeline (URP), prefabs, materials, rendering pipelines, scene management and asset integration.
- Lighting: Set up and optimise baked and real-time lighting, lightmaps, reflection probes, shadows and post-processing.
- Shaders: Use Unity Shader Graph to create custom material effects and carry out basic shader optimisation.
- Performance optimisation: Manage draw calls, batching, GPU instancing, occlusion culling, polygon budgets and texture memory to deliver efficient real-time environments.
- Profiling: Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks using Unity Profiler and Frame Debugger.
- Mobile optimisation: Apply mobile game optimisation techniques to maintain visual quality within performance constraints.
Required skills and experience
- Proficiency in Blender, Maya or 3ds Max.
- Strong knowledge of Substance Painter/Designer.
- In-depth experience with Unity Engine and URP.
- Strong PBR texturing and material creation skills.
- Experience in lighting, Shader Graph and rendering.
- Experience in mobile game optimisation.
- Strong artistic judgement alongside technical knowledge of game development.
- Ability to independently deliver complete, optimised game environments.
Desirable additional skills
- Unity High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP).
- HLSL.
- C# scripting.
- Procedural workflows.
- Technical art experience.
Portfolio requirements
Applicants must provide examples of complete game-ready environments implemented in Unity, demonstrating strong modelling, texturing, lighting and optimisation skills.
