Senior Engineer Design - Civil

SUMMARY

The Senior Engineer Design position assumes full responsibility for the development, implementation and administration of assigned programs in the area of engineering operations technical and maintenance support. Essential responsibilities for this position include providing support for operations and maintenance personnel, developing and implementing assigned programs, reviewing performance of systems and components and recommending improvements, and serving as an advocate for improving overall plant performance and reliability.

The Piping and Stress and Support Design Engineer will develop plant models using industry standard computer codes to perform piping and support stress analyses for safety – related and non-safety related plant systems.

EDUCATION

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, (preferably Civil or Mechanical) is required. Although a degree is strongly preferred, additional related experience may be considered in lieu of the degree requirement.

EXPERIENCE

5 Years + engineering experience is required. Adept knowledge regarding the use of piping and pipe support analysis software in addition to ASME Section III and ANSI B31.1 piping codes are essential in the position.

A working knowledge of the following software is required:

Pipe Supports: ME035 – Baseplate

ME150 – FAPPS (Frame analysis program for pipe supports)

Pipe Stress: ME101 – (Linear Elastic Analysis of Piping).

In addition, a working knowledge of the computer programs used in the original calculations (listed below) is very helpful:

ME210 – Local Stress Analysis in Piping Systems

STRUDL – Structural Analysis Program

DYNAPO4 – Small Bore Piping Analysis (used by NPSI) Essential Responsibilities Engineer Design

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

ENGINEER DESIGN

Prepares/reviews engineering changes for plant modifications in accordance with the Standard Design Change Process

Responsible for design, research maintaining documentation and estimating and process improvement.

Collaborate with Purchasing on design projects.

ENGINEERING INVESTIGATION AND CORRECTIVE ACTION:

Prepares/reviews complex safety evaluations and significant hazards review for plant repairs and conditions.

Prepares/reviews non-conforming component disposition. Evaluates the extent of the condition and its effect on the component's ability to perform the required design function, including complex issues.

Prepares/reviews investigations to significant condition reports for apparent or root cause and generate recommendations for corrective actions.

Prepares/reviews/approves engineering documentation (e.g.: calculations, specifications, analysis, drawings, evaluations, etc.).

Reviews and evaluates industry documentation and event reports for relevant application to STP, and identify appropriate corrective actions.

ENGINEERING OPERATIONS COORDINATION:

Manages the interface with other departments and regulatory agencies by leading meetings and discussions to provide specific information and analysis to questions/problems.

Prepares/manages schedule and budget activities on a project level.

Performs duties of the Section Supervisor as delegated.

Provides Management level reports on specific tasks.

Prepares/reviews reportability and operability reviews of station problems/events; evaluate regulatory requirements for reportability and submit written recommendations to Management.

Provides mentoring and training to co-workers.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES

Accept ERO position as needed.

Accept outage position as needed.

SPECIAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to obtain and maintain unescorted access.

Strong written and verbal communications skills required.

Ability to work independently and interface with all levels of personnel required.

Knowledge of design, operations, maintenance, and testing, preferably nuclear power (Preferred but not required for entry level engineer/specialist)

Ability to read and interpret engineering documents and drawings

Ability to use a personal computer and up-to-date software.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Overtime and alternate work schedules as needed.

Subject to callouts twenty-four hours per day seven days per week.

Periodic, frequent field inspections in a plant environment and in all kinds of weather conditions.

May require working outdoors and at night.
