Qualifications (mandatory)

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, preferably chemical engineering, petrochemical engineering, or an equivalent discipline.


Job specification

  • Maintain and support training simulator systems
    Troubleshoot and resolve simulator issues during training activities.
    Perform periodic system backups and conduct hardware and software health checks.
    Liaise with internal centres of expertise and maintenance teams to resolve simulator hardware and software failures.
    Manage and maintain antivirus updates for simulator systems.
  • Develop training scenarios
    Design and implement new simulator troubleshooting and training scenarios in coordination with operations teams and instructors.
  • Manage simulator model changes
    Implement and manage management of change (MoC) processes related to training simulator models.
  • Support new operator training simulator (OTS) projects
    Provide technical expertise during preliminary analysis and conceptual design phases.
    Assist in developing and reviewing statements of work (SOW) and project scopes for new simulator models.
    Address vendor technical clarifications during bidding and evaluation phases.
    Define detailed technical requirements for simulator systems during project kick-off meetings with vendors.
    Review, verify, and approve simulator deliverables by participating in:
    Model acceptance / validation tests
    Factory acceptance tests (FAT)
    Site acceptance tests (SAT)
    Review of relevant project documentation.
  • Simulator asset management
    Coordinate with internal teams to manage simulator spare parts.
    Liaise with obsolescence management teams to address hardware and software lifecycle issues.
  • Technical knowledge development
    Develop and maintain a broad understanding of key techniques and applications across all installed training simulator systems.
  • Technical advisory support
    Provide simulator and process simulation technical expertise and information to engineering and non-engineering stakeholders as required.

Knowledge and experience

  • Hands-on experience with process simulation software, including both steady-state and dynamic simulation.
  • Working knowledge of industrial control systems such as:
    Foxboro
    Emerson DeltaV
    Honeywell Experion
    TRICONEX
    CCC control systems
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in process modelling and operator training simulator (OTS) development and support using tools such as:
    UniSim Operations
    UniSim Design
    DynSim
    FSIM / SCP
    TRISIM
  • Practical experience across the following process areas:
    Gas processing
    Refining
    Offsites
    Utilities
