Position Summary:
The Senior Electronics Engineer - FPGA will contribute to the design, development and continuous improvement of electronic systems for Scientific Instrument like Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) products and Mass Spectrometry, with a focus on delivering high-quality solutions that address customer and business needs. Working in a multidisciplinary engineering environment, you will collaborate closely with electronics, embedded software, instrument software, detector, electron optics and systems engineering teams to develop reliable, deterministic and high-performance digital solutions for scientific instrumentation.
This position provides opportunities to participate throughout the product lifecycle, including concept evaluation, detailed design, system integration, verification, product enhancement and sustaining engineering.
Key Responsibilities:
FPGA Development
Design, develop and verify FPGA solutions supporting SEM instrumentation..
Implement high-speed digital logic for detector interfaces, scan generation, timing control and real-time data acquisition.
Develop FPGA modules for high-speed communication, synchronization and digital signal processing.
Design FPGA interfaces to ADCs, DACs, memory devices and embedded processors.
Digital System Design
Develop FPGA architectures supporting deterministic real-time operation
Develop FPGA architectures supporting deterministic real-time operation
Implement hardware interfaces including PCIe, Ethernet, LVDS, SPI, I²C, UART and GPIO as required.
Support integration of FPGA solutions with embedded software and PC software.
Participate in FPGA resource optimization, timing closure and performance analysis.
Signal Processing & Data Acquisition
Develop digital signal processing functions supporting detector readout and image acquisition.
Implement buffering, filtering, timing generation and synchronization functions.
Support optimization of acquisition throughput, latency and timing accuracy.
Collaborate with detector electronics engineers to optimize end-to-end signal acquisition performance.
Verification & Integration
Develop FPGA simulation and verification environments.
Perform laboratory debugging and hardware verification.
Support board bring-up, system integration and product validation
Investigate and resolve complex hardware and FPGA issues using structured engineering methods
Cross-functional Collaboration
Collaborate closely with Electronics, Embedded Software, Instrument Software, Detector Electronics, Electron Optics, Mechanical Engineering and Systems Engineering teams.
Participate in design reviews, engineering documentation and continuous improvement activities.
Contribute to reusable FPGA modules and engineering best practices.
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or a related discipline.
Typically 8+ years of FPGA development experience.
Strong experience with FPGA development using Verilog, VHDL or SystemVerilog.
Experience using FPGA development environments such as Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus or equivalent.
Strong understanding of FPGA timing analysis, timing closure, clock domain crossing (CDC) and digital design methodologies.
Experience interfacing FPGA with ADCs, DACs, DDR memory and embedded processors.
Experience with one or more high-speed communication interfaces including PCIe, Ethernet, LVDS, USB or Camera Link.
Experience with FPGA simulation and verification tools.
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills
Effective communication skills within cross-functional engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in one or more of the following areas is highly desirable:
FPGA development for Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Mass Spectrometry or other scientific instrumentation.
Detector readout electronics and high-speed data acquisition.
Digital signal processing (DSP) implemented in FPGA.
Real-time timing generation and synchronization.
Image acquisition pipelines.
Motion control or precision automation systems.
Embedded processor integration (ARM SoC, MicroBlaze, Nios II, Zynq or equivalent).
AI assisted programming.
Product development, product enhancement and sustaining engineering.
Experience in collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
