Canberra Consulting is seeking an experienced Systems Analyst with strong API and systems integration expertise to support a significant Federal Government program operating across the education, regulatory and border-management environment.

This role will suit an experienced Systems Analyst who is comfortable working at the intersection of business requirements, government policy, legacy technology and complex system integrations.
You will contribute to the enhancement of a major government system and its integration with systems operated by another Commonwealth agency. The engagement involves translating complex legislative, policy and business requirements into clear and implementable system, data, API and integration requirements.

The role Working closely with business, policy, architecture, development, testing, cyber security and operational stakeholders, you will:
  • Elicit, analyse, validate and document business, system, data, interface and non-functional requirements.
  • Translate legislative and policy changes into clear, traceable and testable system and integration requirements.
  • Analyse complex legacy applications, including system functions, business rules, data flows, APIs, interfaces and dependencies.
  • Develop and maintain API and integration specifications, including data mappings, validation rules, error handling, security requirements and end-to-end data flows.
  • Undertake impact, options and feasibility analysis across interconnected systems.
  • Work across multiple Commonwealth agencies and technical delivery teams.
  • Support solution design, development, integration testing, defect resolution, business acceptance and production readiness.
  • Develop requirements specifications, process maps, interface documentation, acceptance criteria, traceability artefacts and knowledge-transfer material.
What we are looking for You will ideally have demonstrated experience in:
  • API Systems Analysis within complex enterprise or government environments.
  • Developing and interpreting API and system integration specifications.
  • Data mapping, validation, error handling, interface requirements and integration security.
  • Enhancement or modernisation of complex legacy systems.
  • Translating legislation, policy or regulatory change into technical requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Delivering complex inter-agency or multi-system integration projects.
  • Working across business, architecture, development, testing, cyber security and operational teams.
  • Integration testing, defect management, implementation and transition to BAU.
  • Producing high-quality systems analysis and requirements documentation.
Experience with PRISMS, international education systems or comparable regulatory government platforms would be highly regarded. Prior knowledge of PRISMS is identified as desirable for the engagement.

Candidates must:
  • Be an Australian Citizen.
  • Hold a current Australian Government NV1 security clearance or higher.
  • Be able to work in Canberra, with hybrid working arrangements available.
  • Have relevant professional experience as a Systems Analyst, preferably specialising in APIs and systems integration.
Candidates who do not meet the Australian Citizenship and current NV1 security clearance requirements will not be considered.

The client specifically requires all personnel engaged under the work order to hold a current NV1 clearance as a minimum.

Engagement details
  • Location: Canberra, ACT
  • Working arrangements: Hybrid
  • Rate: $88–$98 per hour inclusive of super
  • Expected commencement: 14 October 2026
  • Initial engagement: Through to 30 June 2027
  • Extensions: Up to a further 18 months
The underlying requirement provides for an initial engagement through to 30 June 2027, followed by potential extensions of 12 months and six months.
