Supervisory Healthcare Engineer (Design)
This position serves as a supervisor within Facility Planning and Development (FPD) with responsibility for Design Project Management at a multi-faceted and affiliated VA Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHC), including outlying Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).
The incumbent is a healthcare engineer, with emphasis in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and civil engineering, architecture or construction management, responsible for planning, analysis and construction of new, conversion, remodeling, or modernization of existing VAPAHCS buildings and facilities. Major duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to: Makes recommendations to the Chief Project Development for final approval and has responsibility and accountability for all aspects of the Medical Center Design and Construction program and oversight. Collaborates with operations and program managers to ensure integrated goals and priorities for all projects are met. Responsible for the planning, organizing, directing, evaluating, and management processes for the FPD Project Sections that includes setting qualitative and quantitative standards. Participates in discussion of proposed capital projects for the station and makes preliminary designs of major alterations, improvements, and additions to implement the Medical Center programs. Provides supervision, project management oversight, project package reviews. oversight, coordination, and is responsible for handling all aspects of design and construction of engineering projects. Performs program and project management administration work, including scheduling and layout of operations, and inspection and surveillance of materials, methods, and equipment used in project development.
